New paths and travels await you. Slip on a pair of fairy slippers and enter the hidden realms of Fairyland for a joyful excursion into your creative imagination. The spirit of the wildflower will help you go to new places… and find your way if you get lost.
This orchid is a mysterious beauty that grows in sheltered forests of Oregon and Washington. Very sensual, beautiful, delicate and elusive—Calypso is a word that signifies concealment. Its petals fan out to create wings on its slippers. Pink, purples, reds of the pouch-like slipper create intricate patterns of spotted colors. Around a white lip appears a fuzzy yellow beard. Its appearance may vary. Newly emerging queen bumblebees are attracted to the wildflower’s bright colors yet no nectar awaits so they do not return. Some call the wildflower Angel Slipper, Venus Slipper, or Deer-head Orchid due to its silhouette.
Fairy Slipper Orchids only make itself known to those it wishes to relate with. This orchid may seem delicate, but it knows exactly what it wants. I’ve been on forest walks with crowds of self-focused people that walk by colonies of these pink beauties. The fairies want it that way. They do not mess around. Often, photos come out blurry. They have communicated they don’t want to be touched by most people. They do not like to be disturbed nor do they transplant well. Remember to ask permission if you want to go near them or take a photograph.
Many of the qualities of the Fairy Slipper: spending time in the shade of others, being concealed, fearful of change or new places or disturbance are indications for using the flower essence. Flowers mirror our nature, current state, or situation. The wildflower love their true nature and can teach us how to love these aspects of ourselves, too. And, it can teach us how to open to change and embrace new ways of being. Orchids are great for daring us to transform our lives.
The first time I made this flower essence, I was with a friend, Riki, on her beautiful land in Washington near Panther Creek Falls. I cut a flower to use and instantly regretted it. The spirit of Fairy Slipper was teaching me how to slow down and listen more carefully. The flower showed me how to place the bowl underneath its stem and the flower spirit would beam glorious pink and purple frequencies of its light frequencies into the water to create the flower essence. It was not necessary to pick the wildflower for the medicine. Fairy Slipper holds a very subtle high frequency and prefers to heal on that subtle energetic level.
After making the flower essence it took some time to open to the flower once again. I kept asking, but still felt guilty about how I hastily picked the flower. When the spirit of Fairy Slipper chose to show up again it was in a dream about six months later. I sprang up in bed with these words: I’m for fear of traveling to new places. I was thrilled to receive this clear message and began taking it to help me with my own fears. I realized that new places could include physical locations as well as fairy realms, different dimensions, shamanic journeys, spiritual expansion and ascension, and forms of alternate reality which are unfamiliar. The orchid’s masculine Venusian energy can help us use our hearts to direct our action.
- Darlene (not her real name) loved worked with Fairy Slipper flower essence as she traveled overseas in India and Nepal. Out of the blue, she called me to tell me she got the message from the Fairy Slipper Orchid that it was helping her with all forms of travel issues like jet-lag, culture shock, and general travel fears. This fit with the travel theme that Riki received: the essence could open our advanced abilities for teleportation, a way of transportation without using physical means.
- During a weekend flower essence workshop I was teaching, we were fortunate to have blooming Fairy Slipper Orchids in the forest. The spirit of the plant told me to focus on ancestor healing. We circled around the Fairy Slippers and one-by-one we took a few drops of a flower essence formula that we created for ourselves and our ancestors. We supported each person at she took her essence relaying any visions or impressions we received. As Ramona took her essence, she appeared to slip her feet into the fairy slippers and journey to connect with her ancestors and the fairy realms. A new awareness seemed to take hold of her and inform her relations with the land her family had been care-taking for many generations. After that, she never felt the same about Fairy Slipper Orchid. They transported her to a new consciousness and sense of connection to the spirit realms.
