Caring for Water with Ambre the Mermaid

Introduction

In 2007, I met a river mermaid named Brita. I was sitting on the bank of the Hood River in Oregon enjoying the energy of flowing water when I heard a quiet, ethereal voice and sensed an energetic presence swimming through the water towards me. I sensed mermaid qualities in the movement. My first response was to ask: “Who are you?” A beautiful feminine voice responded: “I am a mermaid!” My eyes widened with wonder and I asked her, “why did you come to me.” She told me she wanted me to tell people that she is real. People need to believe in her because then they would care for the waters. My heart softened.

Brita changed my life, and it is because of her that I write this book. In fact, I worked with her for a few years making vibrational energy medicine to offer to waterways and at dams. I took people on shamanic journey’s to meet and work with her during two Fairy & Human Relations Congress events. And, I left my life in Hood River, Oregon behind to travel with a Native American ceremonial leader from 2011-2013 to bring communities together to care for the waters. We offered Water Wheel Ceremony (medicine wheels for water) and wisdom teachings. My heart called me back to her initial request… seven years later.

I believe it took that long to write this book because of my resistance to diving into the depths of the element of water. Water is mysterious, dreamy, intuitive, emotional—many qualities that I carry. It is not always easy being an emotional heart-centered person in lands where the mind is king. Brita helps me celebrate the core qualities of water —trust and innocence.

Here we go. I invite you into Brita’s world—this is a fairy tail based on my experience of what is most true in my life. It is forged from the realms of my imagination. I believe in my imagination! My intuitive imagination has been my most trusted guide to living a magical life.

Mermaid Brita is the author of this book. I wrote down what she told me. It was a joy to listen! The story could be about me as a 13 year-old girl with a passion for the earth. It is time to remember our wonder and the power of our imagination in experiencing nature—the wildness and subtle realms. It is time to recognize the power of our simple prayers of love, gratitude, and ability to shape a new world from our creative nature.
