I was curious, so I asked the fairies. “Is it possible to be truly altered, or high, by taking a flower essence?”
I find essences very subtly and gently altering, but I wondered if it was possible to experience something much stronger like psychedelics. They never answered my question directly, but several months later my employee and I had a mind-altering experience with an essence that I made with the gnomes and fairies.
I was resting against a Western redcedar tree when a small spirit shyly approached me. One of my favorite places, Panther Creek Falls is in Washington state, and the area is infused with fairies and elementals. The land holds 600 year old hemlock, fir, cedar, and trillium wildflowers, devil’s club, vanilla leaf, ghost pipe, western coltsfoot, and moss covered banks. A heart-shaped area of green plants graces the center of the wall of waterfalls. There is a cave in the waterfall that is dark and mysterious.
I heard a small quiet voice say,
“We have something that you might like.”
“Really! What is it?” I answered.
“Follow us, and we’ll show you,” the being answered.
So I followed the gnome into an opening in the waterfall and deeper into the dark caves. He led me through a room with circular pools made from stones filled with lush waters. Soon, we arrived and he showed me a beautiful red-topped mushroom with white spots on it. It was quite large next to the gnome. He and the other fairies told me no humans had been back there. I felt honored to be welcomed to Fairyland!
“We can bring it out for you, he insisted.”
“Thanks, I can help.” I answered.
“No, we can do it.” They responded.
So a number of gnomes and fairies gathered around the huge mushroom and carefully carried it out of the waterfall and over to where I physically sat beneath the Western redcedar tree. It was quite a feat to carry such a large mushroom as they were so much smaller, but they worked as a team.
I placed my glass bowl out on the earth before me, the one I use for making flower essences. They placed the mushroom in the bowl of water I had collected from the stream.
“Thank you! I appreciate this wonderful gift. Do you want to make an essence?” I asked.
The gnomes and beings seemed very excited at this idea. So I asked them for their assistance.
As I sat with my intention focused on this beautiful gift, I could perceive/see them dancing with me in a circle. We wove patterns with movement and light as we danced with joy at the waterfall’s edge. I felt so happy to be part of this fairy magic! WOW! Making an essence with the fairies and gnomes this way. I was inter-woven into their healing circle.
When the dancing felt complete, I thanked them again and asked them what this Mystic Mushroom (a name that came to me at the time) was for. They told me, “homesickness.” At the time I wasn’t quite sure what they meant, but it felt important. They took their mushroom home and we said good-bye… for now.
I took my Mother Essence of Mystic Mushroom to my flower essence pharmacy and let it sit for a while, holding my secret party to myself. Until, one day at the end of a healing faire in Yachats, Oregon, I saw the bottle in my case and shared my story with my assistance Kari. As I told her the full story, she got more and more excited. I asked her if she wanted to try a drop with me. We each took a few drops. BAM! We both went whirling into orbit—one of us went deep inside our heart, the other went shooting off into space. We both immediately journeyed to a very safe place.
As we took down our booth at the healing event, we couldn’t stop laughing and having very infectious fun. People stopped by the booth wanted to join in! After we left we drove to where our tent was set up. On the way over, I looked at Kari and said, “Oh my gosh! I am higher than a kite!” She laughed and agreed. We felt like we were having a psychedelic experience. We couldn’t believe that a few drops of Mystic Mushroom could shift our perception so strongly.
We continued down to the camping spot at the beach and could hardly keep it together. Later at her friend’s house we started talking to the flowers. They were alive, giggling, and talking to us. I normally commune with flowers, but this was a way beyond what I usually experience.
I feel grateful to have asked the question and received such a profound answer through this experience of making and taking the Mystic Mushroom Essence. I was grateful to the gnomes and fairies for their good fun and teachings. I realized that Kari and I both went home during our journey. Home was both a place deep inside our heart and a place far away in the stars where we come from. Mystic Mushroom cured our homesickness. After some time passed, I realized I had homesickness for being in the forest with the fairies… or living in Fairyland, too. But, now I have the remedy.
